What I help with

Most of the businesses I work with have outgrown their systems but aren't ready for a full-time technology director. Typically £5m-£100m turnover, 30-500 people, often acquisitive, and usually carrying more manual process than anyone would like.

  • Technology strategy
  • Automation and process improvement
  • M&A technology due diligence
  • Post-acquisition integration
  • Software engineering leadership
  • Architecture and technical debt
  • Technology team development

Why me

I started as a full-stack developer and built the bespoke enterprise system that became central to a UK waste management business's operations. Over 13 years I grew with that company from £23m to £60m turnover, integrated six acquisitions of £4m-£20m revenue each, worked on both buy-side and sell-side due diligence, and saw it through a PE-backed exit. Over that period the business grew revenue 146% and EBITDA 84%.

I then led a multinational engineering function for the large multinational organisation that acquired us, growing the team from 2 to 26 engineers across five countries and establishing an in-house capability in Romania to replace third-party development resource. I supported migrations representing more than £200m of annual revenue.

Along the way: around £300k of missed revenue recovered through software I built, and £52.9k of annual operational savings identified. I led the business's recovery from a state-backed cyber attack in 2022, restoring operations within three to four weeks.

I completed an Executive MBA at the University of Nottingham alongside the role.

More recently, I've been building The Skip Shop, an automated UK skip hire brokerage, alongside my business partner - so I'm not only advising on automation, I'm doing it.

Let's have a conversation.

Tell me what's slowing you down. If I can help, I'll say how. If I can't, I'll tell you that too - and probably point you at someone who can.
